Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun Meets with the ROK Delegation to the Consular Consultation

2008/09/10

On September 10, 2008, the 10th round of China-ROK consular consultation was held in Beijing. Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun met with the ROK delegation headed by Lee Jeong-gwan, the ROK foreign ministry's director general for consular affairs. Zhai welcomed the ROK delegation to the consular consultation and thanked the ROK friends for their support of the Beijing Olympics.

Zhai said since the establishment of diplomatic ties 16 years ago, bilateral relations have been developing rapidly with fruitful cooperation in all areas. Recent years have also witnessed frequent high-level visits. During ROK President Lee Myung-bak’s visit to China in May, the two countries announced the establishment of a strategic cooperative partnership, said Zhai, adding that President Hu Jintao’s successful visit to the ROK in August also advanced bilateral friendly relations. The two countries have currently kept close personnel exchanges, said Zhai, expressing hope that the consular agencies of the two countries will continue sound cooperation and give full play to the role of the consultation mechanism so as to successfully resolve emerging problems and ensure sustained, stable development of bilateral consular relations. Zhai wished this round of China-ROK consular consultation a complete success.
