Spokesman on on the sharp devaluation of the Japanese yen

2002/01/15

Q: What is China's comment on the sharp devaluation of the Japanese yen?

A: Japan is the largest economy of Asia with massive economic strength. The continuous devaluation of the Japanese yen will adversely affect Asia's economic development and financial stability. We hope that the Japanese Government will adopt a responsible attitude to avoid the chain effect of depreciation of currencies in Asia as a result of the devaluation of the Japanese yen.
