Bilateral Relations

Chinaand Bahrainestablished diplomatic relations on April 18, 1989. The friendly relationship of cooperation between the two countries has achieved a continuous consolidation and development.

Exchanges of important mutual visits are as follows:

China: Foreign Minister Qian Qichen (March 1990), Acting Minister of Culture Huo Jingzhi (October 1991), Vice Minister of Health Hu Ximing (February 1992), Vice Premier Li Lanqing (June 1993), Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC)Sun Fuling (November 1993), Deputy Foreign Minister Tian Zengpei (June 1995 and November 1997), Deputy Chief of General Staff of the PLA Wu Quanxu (April 1998), Vice Foreign Minister Ji Peiding (May 1999) , the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) An chengxin (January 2000), Deputy Director of the National Tourism Administration of the P. Agreements signed by the two countries are as follows: Sino--Bahrain Agreement on Economic, Trade and Technological Cooperation (July 1990), The Agreement on Cultural Cooperation between the Government of China and the Government of Bahrain (October1991), The Executive Program on Health Cooperation between China and Bahrain (April 1994), The Formal Exchange of Notes on Mutual Rendering of the Most Favored Nation Treatment between China and Bahrain (November1995), The Air Transportation Agreement between China and Bahrain (February 1998), The Civil Aviation Agreement between Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China and the State of Bahrain (March 1998), The Agreement between the Government of China and the Government of Bahrain on Promotion and Mutual Protection of Investment (June 1999), The Agreement between China and Bahrain on Mutual Exemption of Taxation on International Air Transportation (June 1999), The Agreement between China and Bahrain on Broadcast and TV cooperation (November 2000), The Agreement between the Government of China and the Government of Bahrain on the Avoidance of Double-Income Taxation and the Prevention of Tax Evasion (May 2002), The Agreement between the Government of China and the Government of Bahrain on the Cooperation on Labor Service and Labor Service-Related Vocational Training (May 2002), and The Cooperative Agreement on the Establishment of Sino-Bahraini Business Council (May 2002).

In recent years, bilateral trade ties between China and Bahrain have made a rapid development. The trade volume between China and Bahrain in 2002 came to US$110 million, of which China 's export was US$60 million and import US$50 million.
