I. Review of Bilateral Political Relations
From August 29 to 31, 2000, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Liu Guchang visited Slovenia for routine consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.
May 12, 2002 marked the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Slovenia. Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Slovenian President Milan Kucan, Chairman Li Peng of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and Chairman Borut Pahor of Slovenian National Assembly, Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek, and Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, respectively sent a congratulatory letter to each other in celebration of the significant event.
From January 16 to 18, 2003, at the invitation of Vice Foreign Minister Liu Guchang, State Secretary of the Slovenian Foreign Ministry Samuel Zbogar paid a visit to China for routine consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries. He also met with Vice Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing. Vice Foreign Minister Liu Guchang chaired the talks.
II. Bilateral economic relations, and economic and technological cooperation
According to statistics released by the General Administration of Customs of China, the trade volume between China and Slovenia stood at US$125 million, up 39.2 percent compared with that of the previous year. Of the total, the value of Chinese export was US95.44 million, 23.8 percent higher, and import US$29.55 million, up 132.6 percent.
III. Bilateral exchange and cooperation in the fields of culture, science and technology, and education
From February 23 to March 1, 2002, Lucija Cok, Slovenian Minister of Education, Science, and Sport paid a visit to China.
