Chinese ambassador urges Chinese to integrate with local people

On September 14th 2008, Chinese Ambassador to Botswana Ding Xiaowen, held a reception for the Chinese Community to celebrate the upcoming Chinese National Day. The People's Republic of China was founded on October 1st, 1949 and this year marks its 59th anniversary. In his speech, The Ambassador commended China and Botswana’s good relations over the years. He called the Chinese people to help Botswana develop its economy and at the same time draw knowledge and wisdom from Batswana. The Ambassador said that Chinese in Botswana do not only have to concentrate in doing business, but also have to feel grateful by giving back to the local community. He also urged the Chinese people to actively participate in cultural and community-based activities, together with the local people for local development and increased public welfare. On issues of security and home safety, Ambassador Ding advised the Chinese community not to carry large amounts of cash at home and their business premises as it is widely believed. This will ensure that they do not endanger their lives and that of their families from criminal attacks. Furthermore, Ambassador Ding reminded the Chinese people to abide by the laws of Botswana, as well as have respect for Botswana's traditional customs. The Ambassador also took this opportunity to thank the Botswana people for their cooperation, support and contribution to the socio-economic and political development of China. He also noted his great appreciation of the good relations between the two countries. Botswana and China have both shared diplomatic relations for over 30years.
