On August 2, 2008, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yan went to the headquarters of CPM to express his condolences to former General Secretary of the Communist Party of India ( Marxist) Harkishan Singh Surjeet.

Mr. Surjeet was an old friend of the Chinese people and had committed to the exchanges and cooperation of CPM and CPC and the enhancement of friendship between the two countries and peoples.
