"Olympic Night " Reception held for Ghana Olympic Team

China is full loaded for bear to serve the world one of the most spectacular events in the history of the Olympic Games. H.E. Amb.Yu Wenzhe, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, made the assurance on last Wednesday during a reception dubbed "Olympic Night " held in honour of Ghana's Olympic delegation and journalists covering the 29th Olympic Games.

He said the Chinese government for the past seven years has been working diligently in order to realize "the century-old expectation of providing an excellent and unique Olympiad to the world." According to him, Beijing is ready to embrace athletes and the friends from all over the world with first class facilities, the best service with hospitality and open arms.

"These Games will be a platform for athletes to show the best performance and the people of the world to promote the spirit of peace, friendship and unity, the universal values of the Olympic movement ,"he said. Ambassador Yu also wished the Ghana's contingent the best of luck in the forthcoming competitions.

For her part, Hon. Ms Elizabeth Ohene, the Minister of State for Education, Sports and Science, acknowledged that organizing an international competition as big as the Olympic Games is very challenging. She expressed confidence in the Chinese government's ability to organize and supervise a successful 29th Olympiad in Beijing.

"China assisted us to build two modern stadium and the efficiency with which they delivered is the same efficiency with which we expect them to organize this big event. We wish China well and we believe strongly that it will end a great success. "she said.

Mr B.T.Baba, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, in his speech indicated that although Ghana was sending a relatively small contingent to next week's Games, he was confident that some gold medals would be won in athletics and boxing.

He was also grateful to the Chinese Embassy for its "unalloyed support and cooperation" during Ghana's preparations to Beijing.
